OCC March 2021 Total volume up 34.8% over the previous year
CHICAGO–(BUSINESS WIRE) – OCC, the largest equity derivatives clearing organization in the world, announced today that the total contract volume cleared in March 2021 was 904,039,629 contracts, the highest monthly volume on record and up 34.8% from March 2020. March also marks the end of the quarter the highest in terms of contract volume in OCC’s history. Year-to-date, the average daily volume of contracts cleared through March was 42,231,809 contracts, up 48.7% from March 2020.
Options: Total listed options The volume of cleared contracts was 898 653 388, up 35.6% from March 2020. Stock options the volume of cleared contracts was 856,908,768 contracts, up 45.1% compared to March 2020. This includes ETF options volume of contracts cleared of 269 041 795, a decrease of 11.2% compared to March 2020. Index options the volume was 41,744,620, a decrease of 42.1% compared to March 2020. The average daily volume of cleared options of the OCC since the beginning of the year is 41,973,869 contracts.
Futures: The total volume of cleared futures contracts was 5,386,241, a decrease of 31.2% from March 2020. The average daily volume of cleared futures contracts since the start of the OCC year is 257 940 contracts.
Securities lending: The average daily value of OCC loans in March 2021 was $ 119,120,897,964, an increase of 75.4% from March 2020. Securities lending CCP activity grew 17.8% in new loans from March 2020 with 143,987 transactions last month.
