The University of Mississippi invites applications for the 12-month full-time administrative professor position as chair of the Department of Biology at the College of the Liberal Arts. The University of Mississippi is an R1 institution in an exciting phase of institutional growth and is located in the city of Oxford, a vibrant community known for its small town charm and exceptional educational and cultural opportunities. The biology department has both full / full professors and lecturers, research associates, masters and doctorates. students, and one of the largest cohorts of undergraduate majors and strongest course enrollments at the university. Candidates for the post of president must have a doctorate. degree or equivalent in any field of biological sciences and professional achievement commensurate with tenure as a professor, including a history of productive scholarships supported by extramural funding and solid graduate teaching experience higher and undergraduate. We are seeking a chair that will provide innovative and collaborative leadership to help faculty shape a common vision for the future of the department and cultivate exemplary research and teaching. Desired qualifications include experience in managing people and finances, strong interpersonal communication skills, a commitment to shared governance, a collaborative administrative approach that builds consensus across biological disciplines, the ability to create and manage interdisciplinary partnerships and dedication to the career development of graduate students.
